Marty Duncan
Marty Duncan taught English and Journalism before becoming a school superintendent for five districts (28 years). His most recent posting was at Greenway, in northern Minnesota. The discovery of iron ore and the influx of immigrants into the Iron Range led to Duncan’s first novel, Gold …then Iron (1st Edition 2003). (2nd Edition 2023).
When the Board at Greenway chose to ‘not renew’ his contract, he stood outside his office and smoked his last cigarette. He challenged himself to write six novels before his 70th birthday. He beat his deadline by two weeks.
During his lifetime, Duncan has continued to study ‘very-ancient’ history and the Earth Chronicles of Zecharia Sitchin and many other archeologists/linguists.
Through twenty-five years as a school administrator, Duncan accumulated a wealth of stories and insights into the internal politics, power and prejudice at work within our public schools. He wrote Iron Lake Burning as a salute to the men and ladies who make decisions that affect the lives of children. (2003)
“My intent was to write a classic romance, using the Civil War in the background.” That led to the trilogy, Black Powder in three books. The Dakota War tells the story of an Irish lass captured and held as a hostage during the Dakota War of 1862. The Fifth Minnesota is the story of Patrick Harant and Kelsey O’Welin during the Civil War. New Americans tells the story of Kelsey, Patrick, their children and their new spouses.
The Pilot’s Mate and its companion Shin’ar, My Love were written to describe the nuclear war of 2024 BCE and the actions of the Anunnaki Lords who ‘ruled’ the Earth. Pilot’s Mate won the Pinnacle Achievement Award.
In 2021 he is publishing To My Love: Songs of Regret, Love and Hope in honor of his 53 years with Carolynn Lee (Swensrud) Duncan.
Supt. Duncan served ten years as a Board Member at St. Peter Public Schools; then four years on the MN State Academies Board. He is a proud member and supporter of his Lions Club and supporter of Partners for Housing, Mankato/St. Peter.
WRITING RÉSUMÉ
An enthusiastic teacher of American Lit (aka ‘Mark Twain’), Marty Duncan taught Creative Writing, Writing and Comp, and Journalism. The Black Powder trilogy has been revised and republished: Vengeance (new title The Dakota War); Civil War Romance (new title The Fifth Minnesota); and New Americans (revised, same title).
In 1970 Duncan began a life-time study of ancient (Pre-Deluge) history. His studies led to The Pilot’s Mate which begins on Mars at the five pyramid community (on Cydonia Plain) and ends with his heroine Celiste rebuilding an abandoned village. Shin’ar, My Love paints the love-scape of Celiste and Deem, the shuttle pilot. Will he honor her faith in him?
